Karen Snider - Fine Artist
When I attended the University of New Mexico, in the 1960-1970’s, I majored in anthropology and minored in art. Since neither were sufficient career studies (I did show in galleries in both California and Oregon in the 1980’s), I returned to school in 1988 to become certified as a Media Specialist.
From 1990 through 2000, when I resided in central Oregon, I worked in color pencils in my spare time. I had a one man show of my work in Sisters, Oregon. In the year of 1998, I was asked to participate as a demonstrating artist in Bend Oregon’s Artist Walk.
Both Redmond and Jefferson County fairs awarded my works first and second place.
Then in 2000 I accepted a teaching job in Aiken S.C. and started participating in Saturdas Life Studio workshops. At that time I switched my medium to pastels.
In the spring of 2004, I quit my teaching job, and accepted a 30 hour position with the public library. This was so I could focus more time on my art. I took oil painting instruction from Augusta’s artist, David Mascaro for the next 2 years. Over the past 5 years, I entered and was accepted at many South Carolina juried shows (Spartinburg, McCormick, Belton, State Fair, Anderson, Greenwood, and Pickens; and Hilton Head’s national juried show). I won many awards.
I hve been able to sell original works to individuals, hospitals, and businesses. I also accept and produce commissioned work. Each year I donate several pieces to charities.
